Interior Design in Malta and Gozo

Interior design that suits the way you live.

Interior designers for new and existing homes in Malta and Gozo, from a single room to a whole property, including off-plan homes still being built.

Good interior design is less about a look than about the day you will have in the space: where the morning light falls, where the shopping lands, how many people sit down to dinner on a Sunday.

A designer turns that into layouts, finishes, lighting and furniture that work together, and keeps the whole home consistent rather than decided room by room. In Malta the brief often comes with something particular: a house of character with stone to respect, a new apartment sold as a blank shell, or a home being readied to let.

Houses of character

Designing around limestone, arches and patterned tiles

Townhouses, farmhouses and palazzini carry what a new build cannot: exposed limestone, vaulted and timber-beamed ceilings, patterned cement tiles, timber balconies and deep-set apertures.

Designing for them is mostly restraint. Restore what is there, run the new services discreetly, and choose pieces that let the stone lead. Where walls or ceilings need to change, the designer works alongside a perit.

Choosing a designer

Questions worth asking first

  • Can I see homes you have finished, not only renders?
  • Do you charge a fixed fee, a percentage of the budget, or both?
  • Who manages the trades on site, you or me?

How an enquiry works

01

Tell us what you need

A few lines about the property and the work is enough to start.

02

It comes to our team

The Abode Boutique team reads it and passes it to the right service provider for the work.

03

You deal with them directly

The service provider contacts you to talk through the work, the timing and the price.

or

One point of contact

Rather hand over the whole job?

Some owners would rather have it managed than arrange each part themselves. We coordinate the interior design, keep an eye on a turnkey fit-out, look after the property once it is ready, and bring in the right people for anything else it needs.

One point of contact instead of several.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does an interior designer cost in Malta?

Designers charge in different ways: a fixed fee for the design, a percentage of the project budget, or an hourly rate for consultations. Ask each one how they charge before you compare quotes, since the same total can cover very different amounts of work.

What is the difference between an interior designer and a perit?

A perit is a warranted architect, responsible for anything structural and for planning applications. An interior designer works on how the inside looks and works: layouts, finishes, lighting and furniture. Larger projects often need both, working together.

Can an interior designer work on an off-plan apartment?

Yes, and early is better. Working from the developer's plans, a designer can settle layouts, socket positions and lighting before the walls are closed, which is far cheaper than changing them afterwards.

Do interior designers work on houses of character?

Yes. Character homes need a lighter hand: restoring stone, ceilings and tiles rather than covering them, and running new services discreetly. Where structural change is involved, the designer works with a perit.

Can I hire an interior designer for just one room?

Yes. A kitchen, a bathroom or a living room is a common brief, and a good designer will make sure it sits well with the rest of the home.

Can my home be designed while I live abroad?

Yes. Concepts and drawings are shared and agreed remotely, and the designer handles orders and installation on the ground, so you return to a finished home.
